Miss. hospital seeks new organ-procurement organization

Modern Heath Care | Beth Kutchner
Tri-Lakes Medical Center, Batesville, Miss., has filed a petition with the CMS (PDF) seeking a waiver to switch to an in-state organ-procurement organization.

The 112-bed hospital, which Health Management Associates, Naples, Fla., acquired in May 2011, does not perform organ transplants. However, like all hospitals, it is assigned to a local procurement organization to identify potential organ donors.

Tri-Lakes currently works with the Mid-South Transplant Foundation, Memphis, Tenn. Its waiver requests a change to the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, Flowood.

Wes Sigler, Tri-Lakes' CEO, said in a statement that the medical center “made this decision in part to help keep as many donations as possible in the state of Mississippi.”
