RENSSELAER, Ind. (WLFI) - A Rensselaer woman is celebrating the anniversary of an organ transplant Tuesday.
Lynda Edwards received a kidney from her sister 20 years ago, but for her daughter, Courtney Tillotta, it was more than just a surgical procedure.
Tillotta remembers planning out the rest of her life without a mother when she was just 10 years old and says she is grateful her aunt stepped in for the donation.
She said her experience with organ donation in her family has led her to her job at the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization which she says is no coincidence.
“It's not just a job, it truly is a gift from God and I am doing what I am meant to be doing, and giving back to these donor families and helping them when they're in the throws of grief and bereavement after their loved one has died,” said Courtney Tilotta, Team Leader for Aftercare and Bereavement for the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization.
