Her tireless work raising awareness for organ donation has garnered the attention of Hollywood heavyweights like Justin Bieber and Ellen Degeneres.

Now Prime Minister Stephen Harper can be added to the growing list of people who have recognized the bravery and fighting spirit of double lung transplant recipient Helene Campbell.

On Wednesday, Harper honoured Campbell with a Diamond Jubilee Medal in Toronto.

"This is for recognition of your tremendous work raising awareness of the importance of organ donations and obviously your personal courage in all of that," Harper said.

"You've been a great inspiration to many, many Canadians and people have seen you worldwide and you should feel very good about that."

The 21-year-old underwent the complicated surgery on April 6 and shares her experiences on her blog
