Organ donation is a cause very literally close to Madison Shinaberry's heart. The Harrisonburg teen received a double lung transplant in 2009, and Thursday she's lobbying state legislators to pass a law encouraging more donation and transplant education for high school health students.
Shinaberry is just 16 years old, but she's already making bold steps in her fight to raise awareness for organ donation.
She suffered from a life-threatening illness called primary pulmonary hypertension and received a double lung transplant in 2009.
She's spent her time since, lobbying state lawmakers to support legislation that would require ninth grade health students to receive a 30 minute lesson on organ donation. Shinaberry says she wants to help dispel the rumors associated with organ donation.
